ELECTION 2011: A MIXTURE OF PLUSES & MINUSES

With apologies for the lack of posts during the past month I am quite sure all genuine readers will understand where my and other Progressives’ priorities had to be primarily focussed. Indeed, with my Scrutiny sub-panel also working throughout the period and keeping up my constituent work the reality that something just had to be sacrificed was only more pronounced.

Still, at least those of us outside of the Establishment Party fold in St. Helier No. 1 District didn’t quite have to contend with the new low in political smear campaigns achieved across in No. 2 District where Rod Bryans certainly showed the true nature of his ‘qualities’.  Not that he was alone.

But a little more on this – including the happy and long overdue political demise of that ‘whiter-than-white’ candidate Mr. Bryans’ was oddly most happy to have as his political running mate; ex-Senator Terry Le Main - in coming posts when I will look back at some of the election results in greater depth.. But in the meantime… Did you really lose that much money with ‘Honest’ Nev, Terry? To think - Jon had said that you were a shoe in…

A great big ‘Thank You’

For now above all else let me just say a great big ‘Thank You!’ to all of those who came out to support me with your vote on October 19th. Shona has similarly asked me to pass on her own thanks via the site as well. With the Horsfall/Walker/Ozouf faction pulling out all the stops to knock out the Progressives your support is greatly appreciated; as have been all of the numerous e-mails, letters, phone calls etc since the result. Believe me – they all mean a great deal indeed. Thank you!

Yet as some have also said to me; in a perverse way perhaps that ‘thank you’ should even be extended to the lowlifes who apparently have so little in their sad existences that they put so much energy and hate into the desperate tactics to try and stop the likes of Shona and myself getting re-elected?

Even with the Assembly undoubtedly shifting slightly to the right - as a result no doubt of many people clearly not being wise to the con being spun with regard to which candidates were ‘independent’ of the Establishment – that the smear tactics against us backfired spectacularly cannot be denied. Better still, in three years time they may just come back to haunt some people. Yes, how very poetic…

Two politicians who really will be sadly missed…

But whilst I will look at the pluses and negatives of the election result in greater detail in forthcoming posts I still really do have to just comment briefly here on the loss of Deputies Debbie De Sousa and Bob Hill.

Bob Hill has been a genuine and dedicated servant to transparency and doing what he believed to be right throughout five electoral terms. Some record by anyone’s standards. He will be a real loss to the democratic process – probably simply paying the price of being a free thinker within a somewhat conservative area in St. Martin.

One thing is for sure: Bob can hold his head up with pride. I wish him well in whatever he does next. They say you only really miss what you have had when it’s gone: could well be the people of St. Martin may well come to experience that reality for themselves before 2014.

Debbie De Sousa may have only been in the States for one term but she too can hold her head up having a record of hard work and sticking to her principles that is a real credit to her. She worked tirelessly for both her constituents in St. Helier No. 2 and played a full role in the States generally. Indeed, Debbie had probably come on more than any other of the new Members over the past seven or eight months. I also have to agree that I think she was badly let down by the Portuguese community for whom she had worked so particularly hard.

But devastated as she will be what Debbie really can hold on to is the fact that - should she wish to stand again in 2014 - I am certain that she can be re-elected in three years time. I have no doubt whatsoever that she can certainly oust Establishment lightweight Rod Bryans - who will now, of course, actually have to do some political hard work and come up with some policy – something starkly conspicuous by its absence in both his ‘manifesto’ and his lie-filled ramblings on his website.

Of course, as the wider interests of the people of St. Helier are obviously the key underlying factor it is much more beneficial that in 2014 the likes of Bryans are sent packing. However, Debbie can also quite probably take the seat of my former JDA colleague Deputy Geoff Southern if push comes to shove.

Why do I say this? Well, sad as it makes me, if Geoff really thinks it is okay to go around telling people ‘one vote only’ so desperate was he to finish top (as so many people from Number 2 have told us he was doing in stark contrast to Shona and Debbie herself) and risk knocking out a hardworking fellow Progressive as a result then quite frankly its probably time he too sailed off into the political sunset.

Progressives need to focus on keeping out the real enemies of ordinary working people – not just think about looking after themselves. Yet strangely, there is actually a much better chance of this now happening following on from this election. But more about the need for the so-called Progressives to take a leaf out of the Establishment approach to sticking together in the near future.

The next post: Chief Minister and beyond – who is up for what…

With regards to who might be our next Chief Minister I suppose the one good thing you can say is that at least we already know that we have a choice. Sadly the caveat is that at present that choice is like being told you have to spend the next three years of your life shacking up with one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

We can only hope that Senator Alan Breckon does indeed throw his hat into the ring to provide real choice. Not just choice but an alternative to elitism; incompetence and the failed, greed-based policies of free-market fundamentalism that have taken us to the brink. So other than trying to re-assure a couple of posters that: yes – I really will do my utmost to get back to putting a new post up every week or two I think I will leave it there.

Well…apart from answering the following question as to my own future approach.

Will I be bowing to pressure from our newly self-proclaimed ‘leader’ Senator-Elect Bailhache i.e. that apparently his eminence can insult or attack who he likes (just read the interview in the JEP again and spot the hypocrisy) but anyone who isn’t on the cocktail circuit is obviously an unruly peasant and must be fined and silenced if they should dare to question)?

Put it this way. As one older lady and her friend wanted to make quite clear to me when casting their votes at the polling station: ‘What we want from you Trevor is more of the same - only even louder! These tax dodgers need to understand this Island belongs to us ordinary people too! We’ve paid our way its time they did. We’re relying on you to make them listen.’
Ladies, I can only say I will do my very best to comply.

As for Jon. Sorry, I guess you’ll just have to console yourself with sending out childishly insulting posters and talking to yourself on the net. Still, if it keeps you from making any more sick; cowardly death threats to innocent people …

Keep the Faith.
Trevor

  1. The most sickening thing I saw during the election in District No 2 was and abuse victim wearing a Terry Le Main Rosette. The victim could not have been aware that it was Terry who shouted Stuart Syvret down when trying to deliver his xmas speech. He also couldn't have known that Terry has consistently voted with the establishment in order to cover the abuse up.

The disgusting campaign run by Bryans and Le Main demonstrated the low life's they are and No 2 District will regret the day they elected Bryans but at least they had the sense to see through Le Main. They also had the sense to re-elect Shona as District No 1 did you.

Don't let "Sir" Pip bully and intimidate you but for back up you might want to keep hold of a copy of the Sharp Report and his Liberation Day speech to remind him that we've got his number.

  4. I hear that Bryans 'cares' so much about representing the people of St. Helier No. 2 here that he didn't even bother turning up for the training in the States on how to represent us as a Member last week! If true absolutely disgusting. People have been conned but then I suppose this will be yet another of the head noding brigade who just votes as Ozouf tells him via Blackberrie?

  5. Great to see you back on line Trevor after your well deserved success. Please tell Shona that she did brilliantly. Her manifesto was amongst the best I have ever seen and the insert she put in totally discredited the lies being spun by Telboy and Whining Wod. All the best to both of you.

    PS

    Bye-bye Terry!!!!!!!

  6. Big Trev.

There were some horrible dirty tricks played against yourself and Shona in the election. Perhaps the establishment might have learnt that negative campaigning does not work and will employ other tactics next time round (with the help of the State Media).?

With the "evidence" that has been coming out at your Scrutiny Review it's not a wonder they will want rid of you, a whole new "evidenced" can of worms has been opened involving certain Police Officer's motives, State Media, and much, much more that will have those in high places a little twitchy!

Bob Hill was a huge loss, as was Debbie and Daniel Wimberley (his choice). Getting Gerard Baudains instead of Ann Dupre was a huge victory. I might not agree with everything GB stands for but at least he is his own man, unlike Ann Dupre.

    Interesting times ahead!

Thank God you are back on line. The blogs have all been so quiet these past few weeks I was starting to think I would have to join the library to find something interesting to read. You are spot on about the next CM. Please do stand Senator Breckon. PLEASE!

  12. Hi Anonymous

Nothing wrong with being a bit of a racer if it is being done in the right place and all organised and legit.

The only 'boy racers' I have problems with are the ones who both put people's lives at risk and make the existence of other people a misery by being inconsiderate.

I doubt Mr. Baker is one of these whatever his politics.

  13. Trevor. Can you shed any light on the statement from Ozouf on whether he would be standing for Chief Minister or not that was meant to be released today? I haven't heard a thing. Cheers.

  14. The Ozouf statement? I am a bit behind with my e-mails so maybe Philip has sent out something that I have missed.

But take it from me - my bet would be that there will be a 'personal' statement read out in the States.

If he has decided that he can't win - which I don't think he can now - then he will throw his weight behind Senator-Elect Bailhache.

The hope being that of hanging on to as much of the power that he has drawn to himself these past three years as he can.

Of course, he may yet surprize us all and do the best thing for the people of Jersey.

    Quit politics.

  17. I'm very interested to see what you say about how you think this election may actually lead to a strengthening of the progressive element in the States. I don't know if you are getting at the same thing as me, Trevor, but I have long thought that one or two of the old guard needed to move on.

Good as a couple of these politicians have been I can't help thinking that they have been around so long that they have become devisive. They have become the 'token' opposition if you like. All that some people thought have when you mentioned anit-establishment.

Probably stopping the new blood such as yourself and a few others from moving forward. I really don't mean to upset or insult anyone by this observation. I just think that someone like you, Shona, Mike Higgins, even Monty if he can stop winding people up just for the sake of it, can perhaps move things on.

What do others think? I also have to add that I totally agree with what you say about Debbie De Souza. She really seemed to struggle at first but like you say she really was coming in to her own. I agree that she can easily get herself re-elected if she stays involved.

    Regards.

  22. hi Trevor,

I've been looking into the issue of Jersey money,
Information on this subject is scarce.

    My question is:
Are states of jersey notes issued debt free by our government or do they come with debt from a central bank?

  27. Big Trev.

Could you give us your thoughts on the "answer" you got from the Home Affairs Minister, Senator Ian Le Marquand today?

Your question appeared to be centred on the possibility of a bent cop who was allegedly investigated by the South Yorkshire Police. Not sure how many alleged bent cops who have been investigated by the SYP there are, so one would imagine you are talking of the one mentioned in Lenny Harper's Affidavit?

You said, in the States today, that it is also mentioned in Graham Power's submission to Wiltshire. Ian Le Marquand said he knows nothing about this but claims to have read Mr. Power's statement? If this is the case, then one of you must be lying. If it's in Mr. Power's submission to Wiltshire then ILM would know about it, if he's read the statement. So either ILM hasn't read Mr. Power's submission to Wiltshire, or he has, and is telling fibs. Or this is not in Mr. Power's submission and you're telling fibs?

One person could sort this out and that's Jon Gripton (Editor BBC Jersey) he's had hold of Graham Power's submission to Wiltshire, I believe, for more than a month now, although the BBC have not, to the best of my knowledge broadcast a single word of it.

If we take what you, Lenny Harper and Graham Power say as true then how can we have faith in our Police Force without seeing the South Yorkshire Police Report where the said officer is cleared of any wrong-doing?

You also said that Mr David Warcup had said either the allegations against the officer, or the findings of SYP (can't remember which) were "career changing." One is surmising he didn't mean "promotion"?

Hope you can shed some light because although the BBC (Jon Gripton) is in a position to he (The BBC) continue to keep us in the dark.

There is a big difference in not being politically 'friendly' as you put it and just spreading misrepresentation and downright lies.

Take someone's politics apart; criticise someone's approach etc. No problem. Hammer me for what I believe and/or why I believe it. No problem.

Just spreading lies - and lies that are very clearly identifiable as just lies - as Bryans and his recent bestest friend ex-Senator Terry 'Snorer' Le Main have been happy to build their 'campaign' around and that is a whole different matter.

Of course, it is probably no surprize why Le Main, having already been forced to withdraw his lies within the Assembly by the Bailiff, still had so little to say about himself and wanted to distract from his spectacular failings at Housing and in his behaviour over the years.

Bryans? Well, he has got in - sadly at the expense of a far more capable individual in Debbie De Sousa - so probably thinks he has been very clever.

Trouble is, with the public sending such a strong message of rejecting his pathetic smear campaign against Shona to try and prevent her re-election, come 2014 this sad little man will have to come up with something a bit more positive.

    Like actually doing some work.

My prediction, however, having seen his lamentable performance when facing questions and the lack of political understanding in his ramblings is that he will go the same way as his right-wing counterparts, Deputies Jeune and Dupre.

'Rewarded' with an Assistant Minister job - but at the end of it voted out after one term by the people for always voting according to how Senator Ozouf and the Establishment Party decree, rather than in their interests.

Still, I expect his new chums at the Fruitcakes/Abuse-deniers/Reactionary/Creeps & Election-failures website will make excuses for, and support him all the way regardless.

That has got to be encouraging for his confidence I suppose - I mean, they did such a great job in getting Terry elected in No. 2, didn't they...

  29. Trevor if downright lies have been spread by an individual during the elections about other candidates then isn't that a breach of election law?

Can't help but feel this has all been worked out behind the scenes to avoid splitting the vote too many ways which would have risked Bailhache coming third in the first round.

Now it's a two horse race he is guaranteed to win in my opinion. Such a shame that we will now be governed by the man who made that infamous liberation day speech.

  67. Dear Deputy Rebel Raiser

There can be little doubt that you cost Sir Philip his rightful place as our Chief minister due to your bullying through the open vote proposals. Do you in all honesty feel pleased with yourself?

Had members been able to keep which way they were voting from the public the result would have almost certainly been different. Upon reflection do you not feel that you will deserve all the slings and arrows that you may well now be on the end of from a disgusted and betrayed wealth creating section of our community?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Dear Anon

Firstly, just how I am supposed to have 'bullied through' the open vote proposition I brought is something that you will have to enlighten me to.

A majority of people voted for it because the majority understood (especially with the electorate watching no doubt in somwe cases!) that it was the right thing to do.

Do I feel that I will deserve the slings and arrows? No. Actually I think I deserve to be bought a drink!

    Keep the Faith

  69. So first all the Baillache followers moan because an open vote may affect who the chief picks for ministerial roles. Now he didnt get the job its also the fault of the vote being open that he didnt get his dream. What a load of "sour grapes" as them people like to say when others dont get what they hoped for. Unlucky, get over it. What is it with these people, always crying foul when it doesnt go their way. etc etc.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I presume that having produced the BDO Scrutiny Report you hope that sufficient people will read it and make comments?
The apparent silence is very puzzling. I have read it but also attended the public hearings so have a better knowledge of it than most of Jersey's 92,000 residents.
Yet I am not sure how to respond because there are some actions that should clearly now come from our government. My own observations seem to be largely superflous.

Perhaps you could indicate what is proposed to happen now so far as the Panel (ex) members are concerned - does the Report have a sponsor to initiate any further action either in or out of the States? Shall BDO's behaviour be subject to further examination or discussion - shall anybody be proposing better regulation of the local media?

Obviously the newly formed States will have a busy agenda once it gets started but I can see that such a Report as this will find its way to the bottom of a substantial pile unless it is promoted.

Deputy Pitman you are a legend. The "0pen vote" is probably the most important democratic step forward since the advent of ministerial government. I love and salute you! Ballsache would have been a smug disaster.

  72. Can you please tell me why the police don't take creepy drunks annoying people seriously? I really hate it walking down in Vauxhall Street since this real weirdo moved in.

He doesn't seem to work at all or have any friends and just seems drunk all of the time, leering at young women and staggering about with a laptop under one arm and a can of larger in his other hand.

Alright so going by the smell of him and his dirty clothes this person may have a mental health problem but surely someone in authority should then be looking into seeing if this man can be put in a hostel where he can perhaps be helped?

If it isn't the police then what agency should be contacted?

A number of us are discussing this problem now. I will be putting something together on this personally but I fully agree, something needs to come through the States too. Hopefully this can still be done. If you have any ideas please feel free to get in touch.

  74. Time for a new blog big Trev and hopefully one on the findings of your scrutiny panel because the state media have swept it under the carpet already.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hi Trev.

Don't get me wrong I am no fan of Pip Bailhache in any shape or form. But these nominations from Ian Gorst are a joke.

Farnham for Home Affairs and just as bad Ryan for ESC! I just can't believe it. Neither know a thing about their proposed departments.

This could all lead to an even bigger disaster than the last six years.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Could anonnymous be talking about Jon?

    ReplyDelete
  77. What a joke result Trevor. The only one with a background in education and you don't get it! Ryan has excatly what expertise in ESC? I don't suppose it will be much consolation but you were by far the most authorative in both your speech and answers. I would have put James Reed next by a fair margin so what does that tell us?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Bad luck. The troll will be working overtime with his multiple personalities on Twitter and Channelonline.

Let him speak to himself and laugh Trev. Jersey is heading for the rocks even faster than before. Iceberg ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think our new CM is a dead duck already with Ozouf back in charge.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Trevor.

Well done today, for letting Mick Gradwells name slip out accidently, on purpose.

This got onto the BBC news at 1pm. The BBC also named him, but said that the incident could not be taken any further because he has now retired.

This a poor excuse for not criminally charging him dont you think?

    ReplyDelete
  81. These votes have been a sick joke. All the best speeches made by candidates who got about a dozen votes. Ryan was embarrassingly bland. Maclean was rubbish. Judy Martin was brilliant as were you and Mike Higgins. Judy was just so entertaining though.

    ReplyDelete
  82. A bad day for the farcical ones.

Baker already setting himself up as the new Invisible Man AKA Ben Shenton off home early EVERY DAY and hardly there. Getting fined for his latest little run in, speeding near a school on his motorbike? Nice.

The three useless ex-Senators, two having chickened out of standing and one having been thrashed in No. 2 St. Helier and retired outed again in the States as secret contributers of the Vile One's blog cowardly attacking others.

Diligent Lyndan's true rotten States attendance record revealed and he gets only 5 votes for Health.

An air-head who practically admitted he knew nothing about education gets nominated for ESC Minister - and gets voted in!Run kids run!

And even farcical hero Gradders roundly attacked by Le Marquand revealling that YES he would have faced disciplinary charges for his leaks. Better still it actually got reported on the news!

A typical sitting. In with the useless and keep out the ability as per usual. So very proud of our States. Not.

    DOOMED! We are all DOOMED!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Does anyone live near Jon? If so perhaps they could look in and check on him - his erratic behaviour and posts from 'other people' are getting a little worrying. No wonder Senator Ozouf used to get fed up with all the unwanted text messages to his 'friend' 'Phil'- even when he was away in the Far East apparently. Nevermind Jon soon be Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Is this the same Jon that's filed papers to sue Syvret?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Deputy,

The transcript of former Senator Syvret's evidence is not published on the Scrutiny website. Graham Power's evidence - from the very same day - has already been transcribed and published.

    http://www.scrutiny.gov.je/transcripts.asp?reviewid=194

What's going on there? You allowed him to be called as a witness, he swore an oath, why is it not published?

    ReplyDelete
  86. The reason Stuart's transcripts are not yet up on the Scrutiny webssite is quite a simple one. It isn't a cover-up of any kind. Just making sure no-one can get sued.

Because of the nature and detail of a few of the things that were said - serious allegations and names - this is having to be looked at legally.

Further still, because some comments relate to the Law Officers the comments could obviously not be looked at by that same department.

Whilst it was quite clear right away that there would have to be some (hate the word) redaction given the nature of what was said what we need to do - and will do - is find a way to move this forward within the new Assembly.

The obvious vehicle is within the independent Committee of Inquiry. Though as we heard last week - already Senator Bailhache is doing his best to try and scupper that with ludicrous scare stories of how much it will cost.

As for the question about the 'Jons'. I wouldn't think that one particular Jon is in a position to sue anyone. Though he may well be sued himself because he isn't nearly as clever as he thinks.

Just give him enough rope and time...

    ReplyDelete
  87. Going back to BDO and the review. This company and Le marquand must feel pretty stupid now given the very fair analysis of BDO's role? So where was the stitch up BDO? The real problems have been identified by the panel loud and clear as shortcomings from the Hone Affairs Minister's department, officers and some of the people entrusted with carrying out the work.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Anonymous.

Yes, the fact that after all of the huffing and puffing, intimidation and attempting to discredit the review even before we began the response since has been pretty deafening hasn't it? But give them time...

    Keep the Faith

    Trevor

    ReplyDelete
  89. Trevor.

It was very noticable today that no one with any sense, wanted to chair or even be involved in any of the Scrutiny Panels.

How do you think CM Gorst will react and maybe change the stigma and weakness Scrutiny has turned out to be?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Redaction. This sounds like a cover-up to me. Le Marquand covered everything up by redacting it!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Your review is rubbish. It is based on facts and we can't have that. You should have done the proper ILM process of just making it up as you go.

    ReplyDelete
  92. The only thing likely to be 'redacted' in the end will probably be a name of someone accused - without the panel being given the supporting evidence - of being a serial rapist. An issue to be explored within a COI.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I'm afraid I can't publish half-a-dozen of Jon's other latest rants as they all contain personal abuse. But if it keeps him off the streets...

    ReplyDelete
  94. Hi Trevor. The post about the future of Scrutiny is an interesting one. The standard of Chair appears to be likely to be quite low this time with a couple of exceptions. What will the good politicians who have been froozen out by Gorst and his puppet master Bailhache be focussing their time on?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Dear Jon

Please stop posting your offensive and, more often than not, childishly insulting rubbish to me. They won't be published. Nobody is interested. Well, apart from the police no doubt. Maybe a few psychiatrists?

Face it. We're all bored with you. Your 'website' is old news. The 'posts' are all fake - the timings all removed in a sad attempt to conceal the reality of you sitting alone agreeing with yourself.

The bitter and twisted insults demonstrate nothing other than your delusion and inadequacy. Frankly your sad fixation on us following the one you had with Stuart is rather disturbing in a pathetic kind of way.

    Seek help!

    Regards

    Trevor

    ReplyDelete
  96. Spot on about the troll. He needs help. I have spoken to him a few times and he has some kind of obsession with you, Shona and Stuart. I think it is possibly just because he is one of life's low achievers. Never amounted to anything and blames other people for it. In my opinion he should have been sent down for that horrible death threat business. Would have been if it had been Stuart. Might have got him the help he needs. Think your best policy is just to go back to ignoring him though. No one takes him seriously. Like you point out he can't even come with a half plausible excuse for why he removes the timings on his fake posts. All very sad really.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Strange collection of assistant ministers. Hardly inclusive by any stretch of the imagination. Same old same old.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I guess Jon must be worried about this compulsory job scheme business.

    ReplyDelete
  99. What happens Trevor if there is not enough people to run scrutiny? Does this mean there would have to be another election for all the posts? Would the council of ministers fall and there need to be a new election for everything?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Having been one of the few who saw Scrutiny right through during the last term we were certainly not helped by those who always obviously felt they were above such work. I think there were 11 or 12 of us at the end.

Those who stuck with it for a long time but then eventually quit due to frustration at the lack of resspect their work was met with by most of the Executive are one thing.

But just consider, for example, the recently consigned to the dustbin of political history by the public Terry Le Main. Having had to resign from Housing did he then offer to come on to Scrutiny? Of course not. A few never did it at all.

But as to the question. Should this group of Constables prove different to a number of their former colleagues then there still should be enough members to make it run. If not then it is only the Executive who are to blame.

Ian Gorst asked for support with promises of inclusion. Sadly his words proved just as hollow as the two who went before him. What the result will be we will have to wait until next Tuesday. Certainly starting out with so few does not bode well.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Big Trev

I don't see how starting out with just the five Chairmen, three of them new and totally experienced at that, and only nine panel members I think I am right in saying can possibly hope to stay the course once the work starts to build up.

I always thought it was very disappointing that so many in the Terry Le Sueur/Philip Ozouf camp treated the work you all did on Scrutiny with such disdain. Scrutiny needs to be strong and have strong people on it or else it is worthless and a waste of time.

For the record I also think that the electoral commission has to be kept out of the control of ALL politicians whether they be right or left. It must remain independent or it will go the same way of fudge and cherry picking as all else.

    B

    ReplyDelete
  102. In answer to Anonymous who asked about whether Scrutiny could survive with so few people my view is this. So long as those on Scrutiny kept themselves busy and quiet with nonsense like Deputy Macon's review on beaches and dog mess, speed limits in green lanes and the like everything was fine and the ministers really valued Scrutiny.

As soon as we saw stuff like Mike Higgins' review on depositor compensation and Trevor's BDO investigation all the ministerial toys get thrown out of the pram. This tells us that Scrutiny is pointless because it does not have the teeth to back up findings like the two reviews I mention.

Trevor and the other few good politicians in the States are better off avoiding it and focusing on alternative policy and bringing propositions.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Can we finally have a new post this week Trev? The States are sitting next week so would be nice to have some thoughts on are how things are shaping up.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I was shocked to read of new Deputy James Baker's antics in speeding and putting children's lives at risk in the JEP. How strange that on one day he was almost certain to lose his licence. The next week he didn't? Lucky his name wasn't Syvret!

As the other person who sometimes goes on to Daffy Jon's site for a laugh I also found it very strange (not) that there was no mention of this diabolical behaviour mentioned there. Then again as a heinous lawbreaker himself I suppose Jon doesn't like to risk being consistent?

The paper also mentioned there being 'nothing relevant in Baker's record. Does this mean he has been a naughty boy before? Anyone able to shed any light?

    ReplyDelete
  105. Hi

Anonymous - your point about Scrutiny being fine by the Executive so long as we didn't touch on anything to upset the apple cart is a fair one. Likewise the no teeth issue which I have talked about again and again.

Indeed, these two really sum up the core reason why so many are disillusioned with it. This has been a real shame for the Scrutiny Officers who do a great job in supporting the different panel's work.

Jon's Underpants - yes, I should finally get a new post up within the next 48 hours. But I have said that before haven't I!Just for a change I am writing something to the JEP too. Be interesting to see if it gets published.

Another Anonymous - Yes, it was a bit odd how one Magistrate was so different in view from another but I don't know all of the details so can say no more. I don't know anything about a 'record' but I too picked up on this as did a number of people. Perhaps Jon can tell us?

*Sean - I know you didn't want what you wrote published and I will respect that. But I can say that yes, I won't be bothering to give the Troll another mention adopting the same approach as the other blogs. He is, indeed, a boring and obsessed maggot who is full of hate.

But... there are exceptions to every rule and who knows - I may have a little present for the silly little chap nearer Christmas time. No, Jon, not quite as smart as you like to think in peddling your garbage...

    Keep the Faith

  107. On line late tonight? How is Geoff Southern getting on sitting next to Rod Bryans? They must share some great laughs given Bryans smear campaign against him and Shona during the election

  108. Trevor

If you are writing something to the Jep could you please consider mentioning their ever declining standards of journalism? The attack on those who were passed over by the Gorst/Bailhache party, describing them all as 'meddlers' really is a step too far. The bias of this paper is now beyond a joke. You might have thought some genuine political journalism would have seen them cover all the speeches for the Ministerial positions. But oh no. That might risk showing the public that most of those who were the most knowledgable and experienced were kept out by the old boys netwwork. Lucy Mason in today's paper really needs a reminder of what reporting is meant to be. To think these idiots have the gall to attack the bloggers!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Martin

Yes I will pass the message on to Shona.

  111. The JEP is nothing if not consistent in trying to draw attention away from abuse. Next they will be blaming Power and harper for rubbish journalism.
